The city administration of Gavorrano and its population mean not to forget the mining past which so deeply altered this land and the life of many families of Gavorrano;for the aforementioned reason was born on the 19th of July 2003 the Naturalistic Mining Park of Gavorrano.
Within the park are areas of great mining significance and of naturalistic interest such as the Bacini di San Giovanni (once flotation basins of the mine, are today a water mirror which hosts mallards and pochards) and the Monte Calvo, the highest mountain of the town; this area is one of the Places of Public Interest of the Tuscany Region.
At the moment two mining areas are equipped for being visited: the Parco delle Rocce and the Ravi Marchi area.
The Parco delle Rocce owes the name to its suggestive location within a rock mine needed for the filling of minig voids. It is the official entrance of the Park, so there are the parking area, the ticket shop, the bookshop. A cone shaped building marks the entrance of the Museo in galleria, a modern underground multimedia museum which shows the life of a miner of the 50s-60s of the XX century.
The area of Ravi Marchi, site of some castelli di miniera and above all some plants of the first processing of pyrite. A didactical path within the area explains the route covered by this mineral from the subsoil to the loading on the transports which sent it to the processing plants.
